Enhancing Quality Improvement in Healthcare

Healthcare is quite a complex topic to talk about, which is why many experts in the industry feel that implementing the changes for quality improvement can be difficult to adopt. But it is still a task that needs to be done constantly to keep up with the current times and healthcare processes. By properly applying data analytics and creating a quality framework, there is a huge scope in the improvement of quality of healthcare in organisations.

It is a common belief that patient care is all about making tailored decisions as per requirement, making it difficult to create a set process that can help improve it. But in reality, it possible for a system or process to co-exist with quality care. This lack of understanding acts as a big barrier to quality improvement in the healthcare sector. By creating a proper channel of communication and understanding the areas that can be improved, doctors and nurses can deliver personalised care while ensuring the quality. There are several approaches healthcare organisations can adopt to enhance their quality care.

Instead of just talking about ideas, discussing case studies or holding seminars on theory of qualitative care processes, a much better plan is to motivate healthcare organisation to implement the improvement initiative. Applying it on an actual hospital environment will help them understand the areas that need to be worked upon and help create a platform for drastic improvements. For example, if an organisation has employees that have completed healthcare quality certification courses in India, they can be asked to assess the current patient care routine, as well as take feedback and adopt practices that can help improve it.

Providing quality care is all about it being patient-centred, i.e., it should be responsive to individual patients preference and needs. By defining the quality of patient care, it becomes easy to set a framework for healthcare systems of different organisations to act upon. Creating a single definition for quality care will ensure that it is measured on the same parameters among every organisation. While focusing on patient care, the definition of quality care should also include safety, effectiveness, and timeliness.

A good option for healthcare organisations to enhance healthcare quality is to encourage employees to take up healthcare quality certification courses in India. The Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organisations (CAHO), is a recognised non-profit organisation that strongly believes in promoting, improving, and sharing quality healthcare practices to healthcare professionals across the country. They host various healthcare training programmes such as infection control nurse course, enhanced clinical communication skills, quality implementation in hospitals and much more for hospitals to create a better environment for the patients.

Though healthcare is a complex field to navigate, an improvement in healthcare quality is achievable. All we need to do is come together and create an improvement framework based on tests and scientific methodology that can change the dynamic of quality for patient care.
